# Bank rules

> Categorize repeat transactions automatically, in priority order.

A rule has conditions (description contains, amount is, account is) and actions (set payee, set category or a split, set class, add a memo).

**Order matters.** Rules run by priority, and the first rule marked *stop processing* wins.

**Auto-confirm is off by default.** A rule that categorizes without review is powerful and slightly dangerous; you have to opt into it.

**Test before you trust it:** *Test rule* dry-runs against the last 90 days and shows exactly what would have matched.

**A shortcut:** if you categorize something the same way more than twice, create a rule from it directly on the transaction.
