# The pipeline and its stages

> Stages carry a probability and explicit won/lost flags, and can require fields before a deal may move.

CRM → Leads & Pipeline.

A board with one column per stage. Each card is an opportunity; the dropdown on a card moves it.

**Stages carry three real fields**, never inferred from their names:
- **probability** — what feeds the weighted forecast
- **is_won** / **is_lost** — what marks the outcome

This matters more than it sounds. A pipeline whose closing stage is called "Signed", or one in another language, would silently break every forecast that guessed from the text — and the forecast would look plausible while it did.

**Stage gates.** A stage can require fields before anything may move there. "Closed Lost" requires a reason, so the loss-reason report is never mostly blank. When a move is refused the message names the field, and the editor opens on it.

**Moving stage is its own operation.** A plain edit that tried to set the stage is routed through the same gate — otherwise every requirement could be bypassed by editing instead of dragging.

**The weighted figure** is each stage's total multiplied by its probability. Open pipeline and weighted pipeline are both on the dashboard.
