# Erasing your files from the server

> Taking your backups, attachments and received files off the server — what goes, what stays, and the confirmation it asks for.

Settings → Backups → **Stored files**.

Your files are yours, and that includes the right to take them off our disk. The company's owner or an administrator can erase any of four kinds:

- **Backups** — the encrypted snapshots. Afterwards a restore is only possible from a copy you downloaded yourself.
- **Attached files** — receipts, bills and photographs attached to records. The records stay; they simply no longer have a file attached.
- **Received import files** — what the import inbox was sent. Anything already imported from them stays imported.
- **Auditor packages** — any link you gave an auditor stops working.

**Your books are not touched.** Invoices, journals, payroll, contacts and the rest are records the business is required to keep, and nothing here removes them. This is about the files stored alongside them.

**It asks twice, on purpose.** Choosing what to erase does not erase it: the server answers with exactly what would go — how many files, how many bytes, kind by kind — and nothing happens until you confirm that specific list. When a whole category is going you are asked to type the company's name as well. Deleting a single backup from the list asks the same question with the file named, without the typing.

**There is no undo and no copy kept.** Download anything you want first — every backup and attachment has a download button.

**What survives is the account of it.** Who erased what, when, and how much, in the *Erasure history* on the same screen, in the [audit log](https://intubu.intuitivecapital-dai.com/docs/audit-log), and in the [Security and compliance](https://intubu.intuitivecapital-dai.com/docs/security-settings) log. That is deliberate: an erasure nobody can account for afterwards is worse for you than the files were.

**It shows up on your bill.** Storage above your plan's allowance is charged per gigabyte, so clearing out old backups lowers what you pay from the next month — see [Your IntuBu plan and billing](https://intubu.intuitivecapital-dai.com/docs/your-plan).
