# Price levels and rate cards

> Charge different customers different prices without editing every invoice by hand.

Two mechanisms, for two different situations.

**Price rules** (Sales → Price rules) adjust item prices — a percentage off list, a fixed price, or a markup on cost — scoped to a customer, a customer type, an item, or an item category. They resolve most-specific-first, so a customer-and-item rule beats a customer-wide one.

**Customer item prices** pin one specific price for one customer and one item. Nothing overrides them.

**Rate cards** (Sales → Rate cards) do the same job for time rather than goods: a billing rate per staff level, per role, or per client, with an effective date so a rate rise applies from a date rather than retroactively. Time entries pick up the rate that was in force on the day the work was done. See [Time tracking](https://intubu.intuitivecapital-dai.com/docs/time-tracking).
