# Sales orders and backorders

> Commit stock to a customer before you ship it, and track what is still owed when you cannot ship it all.

Sales → Orders. A sales order records a commitment to ship. Like an estimate it posts nothing — inventory and revenue move when you invoice.

**What it does do:** it *commits* stock. Committed quantity is subtracted from what is available to promise, so the same widget is not sold twice.

**Pick list:** each order prints a pick list showing bin locations and quantities.

**Partial shipments:** invoice what you can ship. Whatever is left stays on the order as a **backorder**, visible on the Backorder report, and the order stays open until it is filled or you close it short.
