Assembles the year into the shape a preparer expects, labelled with the form your entity type actually files — 1120, 1120-S, 1065 or Schedule C — along with the legal name and EIN.

It gathers the trial balance, the financial statements, the supporting schedules for fixed assets and depreciation, and the book-to-tax differences, so the preparer is not chasing them one email at a time.

Produce it after the year is closed. If the period is still open, figures can move after you send them, which is how two versions of a return start existing.
