Adding a chart to a report
Put a graph above or below any report, saved with it, re-drawn every time the report runs.
Open any report and choose Add chart.
What you choose:
- Type — bar, column, line, pie or donut.
- Where it goes — the top of the report or the bottom. You can move it later without reopening the editor.
- What to plot — every detail line, the totals only, one section, or specific lines you tick.
- Which column, on a report that has several — a by-month P&L can chart any month, and a Cash + Accrual report can chart the Difference column.
A chart is a rule, not a picture. It stores which rows to plot, and is re-resolved every time the report runs. Change the date range or the basis and the chart moves with the table. A chart that can disagree with the statement it sits on is worse than no chart.
It will not quietly mislead you:
- Subtotals are excluded by default, so nothing is counted twice.
- A pie drops negative values — a share of a whole cannot be negative — and tells you how many it left out.
- Anything past the slice limit is folded into a single Other, so the chart still totals the report.
- When there is nothing to plot it says why, rather than showing an empty frame.
