Buying shipping labels at the pack station (EasyPost)
Connect your own EasyPost account, then Buy label on a packed carton: compare carrier rates, buy, print, and refund an unused label. Postage posts to Postage & Shipping against Postage Payable – EasyPost.
Warehouse → Pack & ship. Connect EasyPost first, under Integrations.
Connecting. On the Integrations page, open EasyPost and paste an API key from your EasyPost dashboard (Account settings → API keys). A test key (EZTK…) buys sample labels at no charge and posts nothing to the books — use it to try the flow. A production key (EZAK…) buys real postage, charged to your EasyPost account. A company administrator connects it; see Connecting Twilio, EasyPost and TaxJar with your own account.
How do I buy a label?
- Pack the order and Close carton with its box and weight (from the scale, or estimated from the items and box).
- Press Buy label on the carton. The rates from your carriers are listed — carrier, service, days and price — cheapest first and already selected.
- Choose one and press Buy label. The label opens in a new tab and the tracking number is saved on the carton, and carried onto the shipment when you ship-confirm.
A label needs the carton's weight, a complete ship-to address (street, city and postal code) on the sales order or the customer, and your company's address under Settings → Company as the ship-from.
Print label re-opens the label to print. Refund asks EasyPost to refund an unused label and reverses its postage in the books; it is available until the carton ships, after which a label counts as used. You can then buy another.
What posts. A real label posts its cost as a debit to Postage & Shipping (an expense) and a credit to Postage Payable – EasyPost (a liability). Both accounts are created the first time. When EasyPost charges your card, categorise that charge against Postage Payable – EasyPost to clear it.
Without EasyPost you type the carrier and tracking number from the carrier's own tool instead, and nothing is posted. You can also type a tracking number on a carton when EasyPost is connected.
